The word define is to describe the exact nature, scope, and meaning of the problem. In the case of the wicked problem presented in the design thinking process, one can define the situation as which individual, parent, teacher, or the administrator is accountable to the student’s behavioral and academic success. In most cases, students who struggle can advance with some tutoring and assistance from teachers and assistants. There are cases when the student does not want to do any of these things with slight improvement. This is the starting point of defining the proper action and setting the appropriate goal for the students to advance in a school setting.
Empathy is shown because one is dealing with real people with some real problems. Next, parents who are part of the defining process need to understand that the entire process is for the betterment of the student and not an attack on their parenting skills or children.
Finally, once everyone can come to the table to discuss the issues, the exact issues can be clearly defined. Therefore, the wicked problem can be addressed using proper communication and empathy awareness between teaching staff, parents, students, and administration.
